How can we create a generation of responsible Digital Citizens and keep our children safe online? Join us on Tuesday, October 22, from 7 – 8:30 PM at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 South Eagle Street, for a compelling look at the impact of the digital world on our young people. KidsMatter, School Districts 203 & 204, the Naperville Police Department, and NaperBridge will present this free program that includes both video resources and a panel of experts. Topics will include bullying, cyberbullying, social media platforms, best practices from the school districts, and hardware and applications. Featured speakers will include Detective Rich Wistocki, High Technology Crimes Unit, Naperville Police Department, Officer Jeff Bean, Founder and President of Act on Bullying, John David Son, Director of Instructional Technology, Naperville Community Unit School District 203, and Stacey Gonzales, Director of  Instructional Technology, Indian Prairie School District 204. As part of this month long initiative we are excited to be offering the Digital Footprint Video Contest again this year. This contest gives students in Naperville Community Unit District 203 & Indian Prairie School District 204 the opportunity to help solve a real-world problem by submitting videos of their own creation as a single or group submission about digital citizenship and the dangers of bullying. THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 15, 2013.

Student winners all receive a trophy, picture with the Mayor and:

  • $200 to 1st Place student producer(s)
  • $125 to 2nd Place student producer(s)
  • $75 to 3rd Place student producer(s)

$500 GRAND PRIZE awarded to 1st Place student’s school technology department in both Districts 203 & 204.

Videos that are selected as prize winners will also be:

  •  showcased during KidsMatter’s Community-wide Internet Safety Event at the City Municipal Center on October 22
  • utilized for curricular purposes in both District 203 and 204
  • recognized by the Mayor & City Council in a public forum.
