Building the Leader in You!
Teens are encouraged to join our Youth Leadership Team to help with KidsMatter’s events and programs, learn business and leadership skills and even design their own project.
Bridging the Gap
Seniors Matter too! KidsMatter partners with DuPage Senior Citizens Council (www.dupageseniorcouncil.org) and other senior facilities to offer volunteer opportunities for youth of all ages and their families to assist our elderly population with crafts, games, computer technology, music or reading. Other opportunities include delivering meals for Meals on Wheels or participating in Chore Days.
KidsMatter partners with DuPage P.A.D.S. (www.dupagepads.org) to offer volunteer opportunities to youth and families. Opportunities at local homeless shelters include making beds, cooking and baking, setting up the dining room, serving dinner and preparing lunches. Serve once a month or once a year from October through May! Evening hours and before-school opportunities offered.
Teen Mentors Matter
This program encourages youth 13 and over to mentor a younger child in their own neighborhood. Teens find their own “little buddy” of the same gender, and KidsMatter provides a guideline packet. “Buddies” typically meet one hour a week throughout the school year right in their own homes to do homework, play outside, and enjoy indoor games and hobbies. The parents of the “buddies” must approve of the match since KidsMatter serves as a “connector” and does not monitor individual students during their mentor hours.
