How we
define "Kid Friendly"
As a community, we all play a part
in helping to raise caring, competent and
responsible young people. Businesses can play a key
role in building the following Developmental Assets
in kids:
Asset #7: Community values
youth - young person perceives that adults
in the community value youth.
Asset #8: Youth as
resources - young people are given useful
roles in the community.
Asset #14: Adult role
models - parent(s) and other adults model
positive, responsible behavior.
KidsMatter knows that kid-friendly
businesses can positively impact kids' lives and
build these important Assets in Naperville's youth.
By displaying a Kid-Kling in their
storefront window, businesses make a commitment to
follow these "kid-friendly" principles:
They perceive young people
as resources rather than problems.
They greet every child and teen who enters their
store, restaurant or place of business with a smile.
They respect input that their teen employees share
with them, recognizing that teen insights are
valuable measures of current trends.
They provide young employees with a safe, healthy
work environment.
They encourage and value adult involvement in
youth-serving organizations.
They encourage employees to prioritize family time
and family needs.
